Scissors select is muuuuuuuch better in my opinion. Also sometimes you can add a little anti-aliasing to "round" out jagged edges.

yeah Rome wasnt built in a day, but word of advice, someone said to always pick pictures that you can see their WHOLE head in and not pictures where their head (near the hairline) is cut off
