Em’s content with Just Blaze and Havoc’s production was kind of awkward especially incorporation of fart jokes all throughout the songs kind of turns people off a bit. If he was a little more serious it might’ve been better. If he’s gonna make producers do their thing it would be good If he can cut back on the immature content a bit but I’m not sure how that’s possible cause that’s basically his whole schtick. His fans don’t mind it but it can be hard to listen to. I kinda grew out of that whole style of his, which is basically the majority of his music.

Yeah, Recovery was full of ridiculous content, even though on the surface, it was supposed to be a serious album. The opening song had lines like "Let my lips pucker like Elton John, 'cause I'm just a mean cocksucker," "Stick my dikk in a circle, but I'm not fukking around," "Call me a fakkit 'cause I hate a p*ssy," and "I'm bananas, p*ssy, cut off the grapes and grow a pair." The constant shouting and emphasis of the really stupid lines didn't help.

You know what? Now that I think about it, Recovery wasn't this really emotional, serious album that a lot of people (and even Eminem himself, to an extent) look at it. The production makes it sound like that, but the serious songs were: "Talkin' 2 Myself," "Going Through Changes," "Not Afraid," "Space Bound," "25 to Life," "Love the Way You Lie," and "You're Never Over." That's less than half the album. The rest of the songs are either motivational hype joints, battle raps, or just Eminem fukking around. And even on some of the serious songs, he uses corny punchlines anyway, unironically.

Recovery was a very shallow album, it was not all as serious as it was made to be aside from those songs you’ve mentioned. I guess that is the most he can come up with as far as being serious on record.

This ain’t really soulful but it might be for his standards. This is basically borderline pop cause of him high notes but it’s a dedication track to his homeboy.

You know what? I'm sorry, but this track is terrible. I didn't like it the first time I heard it, and I still don't like it. I know it's a Proof tribute, but the awful singing, the shouting, and the awful beat make it sound like a parody.

Eminem said he tried making several different Proof tribute songs and he didn't think any of them were good enough. I really want to know how bad those songs were if this is what he decided to go with.

Yea that hook should’ve been redone or removed but I understand it’s a dedication track so that’s why he left it. He had guts keeping it that way, this track leaked a few years back that was also a dedication that’s somewhat tolerable since he’s just rapping.

I've heard of this song, but I never listened to it until now. Why am I not surprised that it's a lot better? :francis:

I think when you compare "Difficult" and "You're Never Over," you get the best example of old Eminem vs. new Eminem. Had he re-recorded the verses and fine tuned a few things, this could have easily been a bonus track on Relapse. It goes great with "Beautiful" and "Careful What You Wish For."

He wanted You’re Never Over to be that way, that’s why Recovery was so successful. The verses on that song were decent aside from a few corny punchlines but it fit the album being he wanted it to feel like a triumphant return. That Difficult track would’ve been too sad to put on Recovery but might’ve fit on Relapse.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. It would have been perfect for Relapse because there were already songs just like it on the album, in terms of tone and subject matter. It would have stuck out like a sore thumb on Recovery, so I'm definitely not suggesting it should have been there.

And I know he wanted "You're Never Over" to sound a certain way, but even with that, it could have been something more like "Going Through Changes" or "Not Afraid" or "25 to Life" in terms of sound.
