Just watched this on bluray last night and I was :mindblown: at how gorgeous and flawless the film looks even to this day. Kubrick's attention to detail is absurd. How did they film all the stuff in space? shyt looks impeccable and real for a movie that old.

Kubricks eye for visuals is unmatched by any other director. Those Vista shots in the dawn of man portion of the movie are gorgeous, some of the shots look like an oil painting

Yah man.

Of all his movies I've seen (2001, Eyes Wide Shut, Dr. Strangelove, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining) I've never seen one where the cinematography wasn't masterfully done.

THE BOMBER SCENES IN DR. STRANGELOVE GOT HIM IN TROUBLE WITH THE MILITARY BECAUSE THE INSIDES OF THOSE PLANES WERE STILL CLASSIFIED AND HIS MOCKUP LOOKED SUSPICIOUSLY ACCURATE, BROTHER!

Kubrick got in a lot of trouble over some of the messages he put in his movies.

In The Shining, there are several things that hint that the moon landing was fake, and that he was the one who filmed it. The rocket on the kid's shirt, the number of the room Jack Nicholson was told to stay out of, etc.

Also, there are rumors that he got killed because the movie Eyes Wide Shut was a little too revealing about secret societies.

You should check out Barry Lyndon, one of the most gorgeous movies ever. Kubrick filmed it completely under natural light.

I literally thought that background was painted on when I watched the movie.

Did they use a green screen for the space shots? Everything looks so CRISP and clean. I don't understand how he obtained this visual style, every other movie from that time looks dated when it comes to special effects.

Also, it sucks that he didn't live long enough to direct A.I. I would've really loved to see his visuals in that context.. I wonder how comparable his vision was with what Spielberg filmed.
