Years ago, I have heard the book goes into detail about how slave owners practiced forbidden medical procedures on slaves, particularly female and children slaves. For that reason alone I didn't want to read it because,(I'm not going to lie) it made me very uncomfortable hearing that. However, now I think I'm more mentally prepared to read it.

TYRONE GA!
Oprah should have let somebody else play her part

Needed a way to sell it. Just glad that she is putting the story out there for the masses.

The shyt that black people have dealt with in this crooked ass country at times ....it's incredible that we are still standing.

Fantastic book, we read it in high school senior year, and had it connected to each of our classes at the time (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, History, Sociology, English).
The use of the cell line from her cervical cells changed the medical industry entirely, the vestiges of slavery are still very clear in her family: the Black, the rural, and the poor.
I'd recommend everyone read the book.
