story upsets me to no end. Not one cac has stepped up and given this family millions after making billions off of this family genes Yeah, especially when it comes to Black bodies.

Read this book a few years ago and it really opened my eyes to alot of harsh realities that exist between Blacks and the medical establishment of this country. shyt is just evil

Years ago, I have heard the book goes into detail about how slave owners practiced forbidden medical procedures on slaves, particularly female and children slaves. For that reason alone I didn't want to read it because,(I'm not going to lie) it made me very uncomfortable hearing that. However, now I think I'm more mentally prepared to read it.
People please read this book. It's so important and revealing

Fantastic book, we read it in high school senior year, and had it connected to each of our classes at the time (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, History, Sociology, English).
The use of the cell line from her cervical cells changed the medical industry entirely, the vestiges of slavery are still very clear in her family: the Black, the rural, and the poor.
I'd recommend everyone read the book.
