Another thing that was dope back then was how the singles came with extended mixes and alternate cuts as well as the occasional B side that was pure heat.
All of that was defenestrated with a quickness with digital but it used to at least give the appearance of value when you scooped up a bunch of 12s back when:

Another thing was that due it all being physical if you missed the drop then you missed it and, on the flip, there were loads of cuts people would overlook or not even think of checking. This one had people losing their minds when they heard it in the mix and soon everyone went to cop the single after it was spinning:
