No, it's not a matter of laziness, it's a matter of perception and someone who is looking directly at you will have a better idea of symmetry and how your line is looking all around your head.

There's no way a dudes line who cuts his own hair will look as polished as someone who gets theirs done by a good barber. There are plenty of things you can do yourself that are better left to an extra set of eyes and hands.
