How long does it take you to get over someone you loved?

Just broke up w my girl because of a lot of reasons I won't get into. We just weren't working out. Nevertheless it hurts real bad when you lived together, invested your heart and soul into it, and now that rock in your life is gone. Talking to new girls doesn't bring about that excitement in the same way. How long does it take y'all to get over something like that?

Depends a lot of reasons for breaking up. If infidelity was a reason it could take you either ways- you're happier the person is gone or you obsess over why they cheated. If you aren't in love anymore for other reasons it will go away faster. Most people take at least six months. Then they meet someone new and have had the time to process through all their history.

If you ever emotionally invest yourself in someone... in terms of a serious relationship...

IMO they'll always be a part of you. At any given moment 22 years from now I could smell the faintest hint of vanilla and immediately think back to my first girlfriend. Or hear a song, or watch a movie or whatever. We're all just trying to fill in the blank pages of our life's scrap book.

Now the pain? Who knows. That's subjective.
