Because Rap is the only genre that flaunts money and wealth.

Which ironically creates a mindset of their listener's "They are already rich I dont need to buy their album"

exactly. why the fukk would i buy a rapper's album who is just gonna throw my hard earned money at some stripper to impress his entourage. foh. :pacspit:

Let me remind you that Sales does not = Influence, the best example off top is Illmatic, which didn't do well sales wise at all but still managed to influence a lot of rappers/fans and Hip-Hop culture in general

rappers really ran with the rock/pop method of bringing money in with touring and merchandising.. back in the day hip hop was only gettin money off record sales and going on tour with different types of genres while rock/pop acts were dropping a album every two years and touring and dropping singles from the same album the whole time..

now rappers can get hot from free albums cause no one buys those anyway but now they sell out venues with only them and their crew on the bill and the whole place knows the lyrics..

back in the day dre headphones, 50 vitamin water energy drink, jay-z resturants would be called selling out.. now they just about their money

Hip-Hop fans wanna consume the most music at the least expensive way.

When downloading came along it was only a matter of time before it hit sales..

sales aren't a reflection of influence. Soulja Boy literally had the WORLD doing the superman from a song he recorded on his computer. All those people didn't uy the single (the single sold a lot of copies.) I saw Chinese inmates doing the Soulja Boy in sync with each other.

nobody trying to support these obnoxious flossing dudes, dudes like Big Sean why would anyone wish you well.

back in the day you supported the artist and routed them on from Nas to where his at, and etc, when they shined you feel cool about it because you supported them and rooted for them.

all these new rappers could fall of the earth and they will be a 100 more with the exact same sh1t, no one is rooting these dudes. so of course no one coming out the pockets, so you can floss your big chain and whip that your fans paid for while telling them how your better than they are. gtfoh.

But that was like in 94 tho. That's not gonna happen in today's market.
