How is Masato Tanaka not a drooling invalid braindamaged dude right now?

I thought Awesome hunged himself due to the situation with his family, specifically his wife divorcing him?

That's a normal part of the cycle of concussion related suicides. The person normally starts acting bizarrely and erratically, and that causes their spouse or family members to pull away from the person. When that happens it drives the already depressed person further into their depression, and that's often when they commit suicide. I don't think Awesome's brain was ever studied, but if it was it probably would have shown that he was suffering from CTE

I always thought Masato Tanaka would be a bigger star in the USA but I guess he didn't want to stay here. Those matches with Mike Awesome were amazing and are still entertaining today.

He's still one of the most consistent workers in Japan. He continues to have stiff sprints and beating the shyt out of his opponents. His matches against Daisuke Sekimoto are :ahh:

tanaka is probably better then in his ecw days

dont get me wrong his matches with mike awesome are probably my favorite of all time and his fmw days brought lots of deathmatch piffery

caught a few matches with him against yuji nagata in njpw a couple years back that were very good technical matches, looked like he improved tons.

Yep. I remember flipping out seeing him in Zero-1. He found the fountain of youth.

Toning down all of the hardcore stuff after FMW folded+Thinning up.

Healthier, more mobile, better. Makes looking better at near 40 much easier.

He's never gonna get rid of those gig marks though. I bet you could put a dime in there like Abdullah the Buitcher and it'd sit in the scar.

One of the coolest things about this feud back in the day is that I could always get excited for the matches between Awesome & Tanaka...and to this day, I don't recall a single promo or word being spoken. There probably were promos but I swear that I don't remember any of them. I just a kid watching like...

:ohhh:

"Damn...this huge white guy and this scarred-up Japanese guy do NOT give a F*CK about ANYTHING...Somebody could die in there!"

TABLES...Powerbombs....top rope powerbombs...discus elbow smashes...GOD!

Classic matches. Tanaka's the truth if he's functioning. Wonder how much money he was making back then.

Knowing Paul E, he probably was promised a lot, but only ended up with a headache and bouncing cheques.
