How in the fukk does someone like Rashida Tlaib, who puts other "marginalized groups" before Black folks get elected in a majority Black district?

The Gaza thing is a tragedy and a genocide BUT a Black district need representatives that will address unique ADOS/FBA problems such as incarceration, lack of economic mobility, and healthcare. Progressive politics are good but Tlaib seems to be more focused on immigrants and Palestine issues. Why would Black folks in Detroit elect her?
You're really wondering why a Muslim Palestinian woman got elected in the most Muslim urban area in the country?

Just do your research, she does a lot for black folks as well

ADOS people have different wealth, incarnation, and income profiles than African and Carribean immigrants and other immigrants such as the Palestinians.

It's the truth.

there's other people in her district that are americans that face those problems you fn idiot. somebody already posted and proved your dumb ass wrong that it is not even a majority black district. so if she addressed those issues it's not going to only be for ados.

I think it's because of redistricting and the lone black congresswoman retiring.

Tlaib running for new Detroit-area seat after redistricting

We acting like doing stuff for other groups is anti black? She wasn't elected to govern just black people. we are just 1 group of many.

The real questions are
is she passing policies against black people?
Is she passing policies for black people?

What would defeat OP's points is if folks would post statistics on things like homeownership, income levels, wealth levels, educational attainment, life expectancy, etc, etc, etc, before she got in office, during her run and currently.

Then we could take a look and really see how much of a positive/negative/neutral impact this politician has had on the quality of black life in her district.

Voting isn't enough..
You need to grease the palms of elected officials to get your way. :yeshrug:

this is cac lingo, the republicans are not a viable alternative

the problem is that there isnt much option in who to vote for.

the bigger problem is that the system has to be destroyed in order to create viable options
...we don't disproportionately vote for democrats every election?
No system has to be destroyed in order to create viable options.
But black people need to build without alerting other people to what they are doing.

How is this
but this is what we vote for...
"cac lingo" when black people disproportionately vote democrat and have since the late 60s?
Sixty-six percent of presidential elections were won by republicans after the civil rights movement to the close of the millennium. Have over five decades of voting history after the civil rights movement benefitted the black community or is our real voting strategy to beat republicans?
From like 1968 to 2000, black people were trying to consistently deliver in national elections and got two out of six dems to presidency.
The rest were republican.

Are we looking for democrats to do for us what we should do for ourselves before we vote, after we vote? The institution obv not working for us if our voting strategy is vote blue no matter who. Instead of voting to stop republicans from winning, since that's been working, how about we start organizing our dollar and putting together our own grassroots programs and organizations for us that we control so we can have tangibles and use those tangibles to demand more from democrats and republicans?

You're being dismissive, and your justification is a proven flop. There is more black people can do for black people than just vote with more immediate results.

I'm not going back and forth with you on an internet forum about what black people should do when there is history. We need a new strategy.
