I wouldn't even be mad if this happened.

They spent eight years foreshadowing Ted ending up with Robin eventually so it makes perfect sense that the mother would be dead by then. Barney too probably

That's what I thought too when I was watching it. But he was never super close with her. All of the other hints in that Buzzfeed article make sense. This show is supposed to be a comedy, not make me feel depressed.
