Haven't watched it in several years, but it was a good flick. I like especially how it captured blue collared living in PA. I grew up not too far from where it was filmed and can relate to some of it even though the period it covered was decades before I was born.

Something that should be mentioned is that it was John Cazale's last flick. Must know him as Fredo from the Godfather, but he had played a good role in this film as well. Cancer got him and we lost a good actor way too early with him.

Apocalypse Now is my shyt, but if it wasn't for Deer Hunter we wouldn't have gotten Dead Presidents :wow:

Watched Fury for the first time a couple nights ago, not a bad flick by any means, but while watching it brought to mind how Apocalypse Now is the quintesential Vietnam movie. Just a flawless war movie with The Killing Fields a close second IMO.

I liked those films, and if I had to pick one or the other, I'd go with Platoon of the two. Full Metal Jacket is a bit overrated to me, it's almost kinda artsy and Independent Film Channellish to me (funny how that seems like the only channel I ever catch it on) , and I guess that makes sense as it's a Kubrick film. All his films have a artsy feeling behind them, to me anyway. When I watch his work, I never feel anything. Not sure how to quite describe it, but when I watch his work I'm being entertained and that was the purpose behind the film. A film like FMJ and to a lesser extent, Platoon, come of like depictions to me, which is what any film is at the end of the day. However, when I watch Apocalypse Now, Deer Hunter, and The Killing Fields, it's something more, much much more. There's an indescribable tension throughout those films that draws you in where the characters start to mean something to you, and the endings don't necessarily relieve you of that tension. It's not just entertainment, but something you can feel, something that resonates beyond just being a film if that makes sense when it comes to AN, DH, and TKF? That's me though.

Regardless, Seargent Hartman and Tom Berenger's character in Platoon are both iconic.
