Its a good flick on how the vietnam war changed up everything, the first half is establishing what life was like before vietnam, the scene that gets me is the wedding scene, today you dont really see weddings like that, rarely do people go that all out for a wedding, then youve got the 3 central characters, they laugh with each other, they kid around with each other, they fight amongst each other, that all drastically changes after what goes down in the nam. Back before the war, when people still held onto those values that were put into the wedding, theres even a scene where one of their friends are like "kill one for me" as if they were off to fight nazis and come back as heroes. Instead what did the vietnam war send U.S. soldiers back like? High Depression, Agent Orange, Handicapped kids, lost limbs, and people being turned into shadows of who they used to be. America as a whole was lied to. Deniro dares to go back into that hell, to pull his friend out, but sometimes youve been in the dark too long that you become a part of it.
