No thats not what Im saying. Im am saying that a coach does not put in a flawless gameplan to win a game and the other coach is like :ohhh: the entire game and the team loses what another coach did during the game.

There is some middle ground between "a coach out-coaching the other" and "one coach literally does nothing and loses the game".....

now I do think that coaching in the NBA is overrated and overplayed by those in the media, but to ask if its possible to get outcoached.

My nikka are you this thick..?

Every coach comes in with a set lineup, some set plays, and a set rotation

Based on what happens, They might have to change these set rotations, plays and lineups..

the one who fails to react accordingly based on the matchups that are occuring, based on the way the game is being called, and based on the way the his player might be/not be performing is the one who is getting outcoached.

It's not a hard concept to wrap your mind around.

For Example, Avery Johnson in 07 got outcoached by don Nelson because Don Nelson took advantage of the pesky defenders that he had that matched up well with dirk and don nelson knowing Dirk negated a lot of his attributes this way, Avery failed to change his lineup or the way he ran the offense through dirk into a more balanced attack, and we lost...he got outcoached.

It was just a bad matchup. Neither team played any differently from how they played in the regular season. Avery Wasn't outcoached the Mavs just got their ass kicked and Dirk shot 38%.

Did Sloan outcoach Nelson the next series? I say No? I say The Warriors couldnt defend the Pick and Roll with Dwill and Boozer.( The same shyt they ran the entire year)

Then why do teams even have coaches then? Just let the games playout like a summer league rec game. Sub in/out when you want, if you got a bad chick at home don't bother showing up, no plays just run-n-shoot, first five to show up to the arena get to start

:leon:

I'd watch though

Yall killing me, Im not saying coaching isn't important for the structure and balance of a team.

Im saying that coaching in Basketball is pretty much standard and the reason another team W/L is that the other coach put on a coaching "clinic" is rarely the case

The more I read yall responses. The more Im leaning to saying that its impossible for me to watch a BBall game and say the coach got "outcoached"

I think its probably harder to see the effects of coaching in basketball than any other sport. If you're not watching game film, breaking down what teams are running in certain situations and analyzing 5 on 5 matchups, you probably won't have a good grasp of how important coaching is.

Probably the best post in this thread. It hard for the Average fan watching on TV to notice the adjustments coaches is/ is not making.

:beli: Before game 1 Avery, coach of the team with the best record in the league changed the starting lineup to matchup better with Nelson's 8th seed team.

Perhaps trying to be too much like Nellie, Johnson started a small-ball lineup, even though he'd insisted for days that his centers would be key figures this series.

"I laughed when they said they would play a big center," Nelson said.

The 7-foot Nowitzki was supposed to make it work, but he failed to take advantage of his size against a Golden State starting lineup featuring no one taller than 6-foot-9. He settled for outside shots early and was often frustrated by double- and triple-teams, with Nelson knowing better than anyone how much small, quick guys tend to bother the big German.

Golden State Warriors vs. Dallas Mavericks - Recap - April 22, 2007 - ESPN

Man, that was not the first or last time Dirk has been guarded by a smaller, quick player.

When Dirk struggles against these guys its coaching? and when he dominates these players what is it?

If the best example we can come up with is A Teams former coach outcoaching the team then.....:aicmon:
