Tennis players are probably the most recognizable athletes there are. Only 2-4 on a court at a time, men and women watch, and you constantly see their faces which makes them good money for advertisers. Combine that with the fact that it's a global sport on top of Roger being a legendary figure with a clean image and you have dollars.

 nikkas ain't playing no tennis in China. I don't even know what Federer look like. Being #1 tennis player is equivalent to being the #1 racquetball player in the world. Everybody recognizes this man and he don't even play :mjpls:

The ladies tournaments keeps my tennis needs satisfied. :eat:

But on the real, ever since Sampras da GOAT retired, I have lost almost complete interest in watching a full male match. Maybe its just me tho :manny:

That's what I was thinking. He's loved by women and some guys, but he's also thought of as arrogant and not loved by many so his image is also keeping him down. Don't know who the cricket player is, but he must be a rockstar in India.

As far as tennis goes. Roger and Rafa are living legends. They get respect everywhere.
Only in America do we dislike athletic arrogance

He is also a sex symbol

I feel like Cristiano could be making more money, but his English not as good as say Roger's probably has something to do with it. Dude is one of the 20 most followed people on twitter and is like the only athlete in the top 50.

Its easier for White America to go out and play tennis than Basketball, especially recreationally.

This doesn't really have that much to do with America. Look at Rafa's numbers and he isn't an advertising presence over here at all, nor is Cristiano. Of course, having major campaigns in America would take them to that next level, but being the face for companies in Europe, India, the Middle East, and the Orient is just as important.

he speaks great English for a 2nd language speaker. I think it's the bad boy image he has that hurts him.

Even with a smaller presence there's lesser Superstars in Tennis so the top of the top can demand more.

How golfers make that kind of money is more crazy to me. Must be the corporate image..How many people watch the sport?

Yeah the fact that he's actively detested by some definitely hurts, but he doesn't really have many ads that feature him talking, does he?
He doesn't

I bet most of his money is Nike and other athletic stuff.

Now if he wins Euros this summer, I think he will cross over like Zizou did after 2000.

Yeah, it's not really how many, but how rich the people are who are watching. Phil for example has a sponsorship for a pharmaceutical company and a few of them are backed by multi-national financial and investment firms. And golfers see huge money from "designing" courses.

Yeah he's pretty much been the face of Nike's most cutting edge boots since 2008. He eats well off of Armani, too. Is he affiliated with a cola company? I know Messi is with Pepsi, so I'd assume Cristiano is with Coke.
