How Do You Define Where You’re From?

Cam’ron telling the world that Jim Jones is not from Harlem but is from the Bronx, gave me this idea for this thread. If you were born somewhere then moved elsewhere as a child, are you from where you’re born or are you from where you were raised?

You are where you from based on where your born. Ig if you be around in a hood long enough people will tell you that you can claim said hood but when you get into it they’ll revert back to say you’re from where you was born at even though 90% of people are born somewhere else

where you are raised. You’re a product of you environment. Imagine being born in the BX and lived there for your first five years. The last 15 years you lived and came of age in Harlem.

I was born in LA but my dad was in the military. I didn’t stay in a city longer than five years. I don’t claim LA although I was born there.

I came up with some dumb logic for this year's ago.

For every 5 years of life, you have to live somewhere a year to claim it.

If you're 5, you gotta live somewhere for a year. If you're 40 you had to have lived there 8 years.

I was born in Norristown PA, but moved to Philly at 12. Live there until I was 31. I claim both though. Been in Chicago for about 9. I can claim it, but it doesn't feel like home yet believe it or not.

I lived in Flatbush, Flatlands, Tompkins PJs, back to Flatbush and then Canarsie before I moved to Florida. I think I spent the most time living in Flatbush in my life overall.


If some random dusty nikka that don't like me got interviewed on Smack DVD trying to expose me would have me like Random Flatbush nikka that lived near Parkside Ave saying he never seen me in the hood I lived on the other side near the Junction! In my next interview I would be juezling trying to explain my living situation growing up like how Fivio Foreign was about his age in that Vlad interview



I remember Booth posters saying when the "This is why I'm hot" dude was poppin even though he was from NYC nobody knew who he was or where he was from He just popped in the rap game out of nowhere....

Question is always weird to me...I was born in Haiti but I grew up in Miami since I was 9, most of my childhood memories of Miami. I usually say Im from but I was raised....I have a slight accent but not enough you can spot where I'm from.

If you went to at least middle school and high school in the same city you “from” that city whether you was born there or not. That’s how I always judged it. Those are your coming of age years. Once you get grown none of that shyt matter, it’s about where you at and not where you from.

For non gang members, If had a phone number listed in a location, city and state wise.

For gang, block or hoods nikkas, If you hood hoopin like what happens in the bay area then you just claiming hoods of the people you kick it with or affiliated with. You get a pass to claim another a hood if you hang around and are embraced by the nikkas from that area or if you had a family member like cousin, grandma, dad or mom live that hood.
