then I just deal. Only other alternative is to kill myself so I don't feel it.

write out positive affirmations and repeat them every morning

set short term goals

most important is to fight the urge to bury your head in the sand. you have to change the way you think so ignore negative thoughts by challenging yourself to confront what you fear / avoid. Depression is only the dark shadow of a bright future. You are about to make a breakthrough to something greater than you can imagine.

Drink.

Or go some place quiet, like a library/college auditorium at night/far-away coffee shop to clear your mind, get away from everything, do some reading.

lmao @ drugs.

I was last severely depressed when I was about 21. I didn't handle it too well. I don't think I even left the house for several weeks.

I think just being sad, I listen to music...for hours. Or delve back into my books. It's amazing how much I can forget about what's upsetting me when I'm into the world created by the book I'm reading.
Long walks really help. That sounds cliche, but I've walked through 3 entire towns before I even realized it.

I don't think telling someone to "cheer up" or telling them they need to get drunk works though. People who are depressed seem to be misunderstood a lot. And often feel neglected by those they love. It's hard to know what helps. Sometimes they need attention. Sometimes they need to be left alone.

If you're depressed, I'd recommend going to a counselor of some kind.
