How do you all determine your desired BPM?

I always use the original sample BPM nowadays... Kinda keepin it like it is cause a lot of times i find the originals almost too good to sample, so i don't pitch shift usually

Serato Sample makes it easier if you ever want to or need to. You can even change the key too

If it's a sample/loop, I don't, I keep it the same tempo, find the key, add melodies or filter. Once it sounds good enough as it's own I add drums.

If it's completed curated by me to start with then I make the BPM fit the style of beat I want it to be. If it's some hood shyt it'll be in the 150-180 range. If it's more mellowed out/R&B it's 120-140. Never in the double digits, the microwave era artists ain't trying to hear 4+ minute beats.

I always start with the sample

But I dont let the sample dictate the tempo of my beat

I do have preferred bpms ... its uauallyl between 75-85bpm ... or the double time version of those

My production style is mad laid back so I stick to that ... It all depends on what your production style is.

How do you determine your BPM for a song.

Do you start with the sample or drum loop

or just pick 80-86 or whatever and develop around that.

Depends..I been o. A house run..so I start with like 120-124 and go from there.

With house I usually set the swing to like 57-63 then start a hihat pattern.

But sometimes I'll just set the bpm and just build with a groove...for the slower bpms under 100 I tend to start with kicks or a snare/clap then build from that.

I also start with chords/synths sometimes just to do something different and build the drums based around the chords.
