What's the origin story?? Something I've been curious about since being a teenager.
I heard that it was because drug dealers in NYC wore them in the winter time, as they had to be outside in all kinds of weather conditions. They would travel to New England to get them. From there, it became popular with everyone in the hood. Before that, it was mostly white construction workers in the NE who wore them.
They weren’t that expensive at first. They were sold at army surplus stores and places where you could dress shoes. Once they got popular they started taxing. I don’t think my mother paid $100 for my first pairMost likely they was expensive so dude getting money got them and people just followed.
