How did Matt Hardy, Lita, and Edge go through with that storyline?

that would be some trailer park trim that would have been actually worth it, I don't know if Im buying this Edge was a simp story line. We know he at least saw the tatas. That is on camera. He probably just didn't hit as much as he would have liked

I watched this podcast last night where Matt detailed the whole story, starting with when he first felt like something was wrong. I'm just wondering how all three of them were able to deal with that storyline when things were still fresh.
I guess on one hand, the company had no choice but to address it since people found out online, but that was some intense, personal shyt. Like when Edge cut that promo on Matt, calling him out for not marrying Lita. How much of this storyline was just them shooting? And when were they able to move past it?
He was released from WWE in February 2005 and was brought back in July 2005. I'm guessing they had to have a sitdown with everyone involved to clear and the air and determine whether they could be professional with each other before going through with the angle.
I used to enjoy ethering Matt in that era--I was one of the ones pushing the The L's of .... thread.

I'm guessing Edge wasn't keen at first, but pretty quickly saw it as an opportunity to jump to the next level. And goddamn did he capitalize.
Matt's return promo and Edge's follow up ether was a quick sign that things weren't gonna go well for Matt.
To his credit, he bounced back (eventually)

I think it was the same night after the show that we ended up walking beside Paul bearer downtown on the way to the car, him and my father talked for a few minutes and dad showed him where the nearest decent bar was
