How did Lucas make THREE terrible prequel movies?

I had no idea people felt this way about the prequels until reading on the Coli. just like some other things I never realized people felt a way about. loved the first 3 movies. the 2nd set was interesting, but forgettable, the last trilogy I have never seen through entirety mostly because i couldnt stay awake. was disappointed in the first two, no way would I go to movies and pay to watch Skywalker.
