Battling got back hot.....because of US in the original "battle" thread over at sohh. We watched and hyped and followed that shyt when all yall had left it for dead.

Props to youngcity back in July 2009 starting that thread when battle rap wasnt doing to well, and then it took off from there. The Official Battle Rap Thread (GT, KOTD, URL, etc...) - ProjectCOVO.com Global Forum

If you combine the total replies in that thread ( 6,772 replies) with the current thread on here (6,590 replies) you see how big we followed and made that shyt.

Battle rap aint shyt without the fans and to all my nikkas in that thread, beefing or not, we did this shyt. WE brought battle rap back dead.

They see me trolling, they hating.....
shyt aint hot no one gives a fukk about that shyt

this

I'll watch a battle here and there if its recommended to me but that's pretty much it. I ain't tryna watch an hour long vid of nikkas boasting about how better they are than the next man while throwing insults out, might as well be watching Jerry Springer.

Battling died for me around 2002, haven't really cared for it that much sense.

I honestly think 50 cent played a major role in the decline of battle rap, every album he dropped he was dissing someone on it and the shyt got played out, before that rap battles used to be an event (LL,Bis/Beans,Jada/Jay,Nas) after 50 came nobody gave a fuk about them anymore

:manny:

Last joint I watched was Canibus's funeral :to:

Think Drake was actually at a Dizaster battle up at King of the Dot a while back too.

Battles getting a million views and battlers getting 5-10k a battle says otherwise.

Grindtime is almost entirely responsible for this current wave blowing up, which makes it sad/hilarious that they're no longer around to reap the benefits of the game at its peak.

Rebirth? He did that at a big venue which already implies it was doing well before that. The new generation of battlers took it to another level.

When Cal was saying that in that battle he really wasn't wrong.

So was Raekwon (Hollohan vs Cortez battle)

Battle rap changed a lot in 5 years.

shyt was pretty much dead in 2007 after the smack DVD era ,

fast forward to 2012 You got guys like Drake, Jay-z, Diddy, Busta, Pusha T, Kevin Durant, Arian Foster etc etc pretty much fukking with battle rap and recently Lux took it to a new level

This era of battling is entertaining as hell. These dudes are putting on a show. It's more than just battling the dude in front of you, you gotta showmanship.

this is true. Battling is a true art and requires an enormous amount of skill, intelligence, and persona.

these cats have found their own lane and a way to eat, and I couldnt be more happy for them.

the only thing is though, hardly any of them can make a good record to save their life. Serius, Mook, Goodz, Conceited, you name em. they just are good rappers or average at best when trying to write a song. and whats the dude that was battling in the overalls? that dude is sick!
