I went to high school in the middle east ... suspension and shyt didn't work in my school. They ended up building huge fences around the school, installing cameras and hiring like 30238203 securities cuz fights would break out every day. People would call their homies from out of school and they would jump the fence (before our school got turned into a prison) and they would attack the guy in the middle of his class or some shyt, then tell the teacher to fukk herself and run out.

Funny thing was the country didn't even have gangs like that, but you would think otherwise seeing the fights in our school. One incident had the ENTIRE senior class plus half the junior class plus random people from outside the school (so we were about 200 people altogther) in some turf war type shyt right at the school's main gate, while parents tryna pick up kids from elementary and shyt. That was the last straw cuz they couldn't suspend everyone involved, lol.

Sophomore year I got in a fight with a cac teacher's son, got suspended for three days, came back, threw a lock at said teacher, got suspended for a week.

I haven’t read all the responses but some of the things y’all are saying is troubling. Suspension is supposed to signal to parents that the school
Needs your help in getting your kid to act right. Everybody talking about how they don’t care, if you have kids I hope you don’t message that to them.

On another note, any school that is worth anything should be moving away from suspension. Black and brown kids get suspended disproportionately over white kids for the same actions. This then leads to the school to prison pipeline. Good schools have alternative measures in place like restorative justice to deal with student misbehaviors. But I stress again, the school cannot do it all. Parents have to push education at home just as hard if not harder.

Its easy to say that but put yourself in a position where you got the same idiots trying you every day for 200 days. Just getting flat out disrespected daily and making it very difficult to do their job. You send the kids out the classroom and they get sent right back because nobody else wants to deal with them. The parents dont give a shyt about them so there is no point in contacting them. Ive seen great teachers get ran off due to the idiots at my school (and i went to an ok school) only to see that same teacher get a job in a great school district in the white parts of town.

I've never been suspended. All my teachers liked me. Plenty of Saturday detentions because I had streaks of being late.

Overreliance on exclusionary discipline is a sign that the school is going under.
The schools I attended had so much good shyt going on that nobody wanted to get in trouble.

Even the knuckleheads was trying to get passes to go to teacher/student basketball games, six flags, video game tournaments, school open mic.

But unfortunately, schools don’t know what to do with kids anymore.
