*Seems like everyone from that era ate at some point in time. Even cats like Dom Kennedy n Tyga had waves.

*Yet it seems like Krit never really had a moment

*Then he just faded. He ain't doing nothing that Cole n Kendrick ain't doing. Also had the machine with Def Jam.

*fukk happened?

His best work in his prime was the mixtapes but they didnt get prmoted so he was all word of mouth.

Meanwhile other blog rappers like Wiz, Spitta, Freddie, Action Bronson, and Smoke DZA promoted their projects a lot more outside of the blogs. Also I don’t think he collaborated as much. The guys mentioned above were guests on each other tracks and other artists tracks all of the time so more people heard them and became fans.

Kendrick had a Dre co-sign, Cole had a Jay co-sign, Drake had a Wayne co-sign. Who co-signed Krit, David Banner?

Who was Krit collating with? Old rappers like Ludacris, Bun B and T.I.

What Krit singles or features charted on the top 100 billboard hits? Not a single one afaik

This thread has been made before so I'm just gonna repeat

Above everything else it's his voice. Krit's voice doesn't command attention which is probably the most important thing. I found this out the hard way back then when I was trying to put so many people onto Krit and the main complaint was the "weak ass voice"

Hip hop doesn't discuss the importance of voices enough. All of our GOATs have very distinct and commanding voices. I always use OutKast as an example. Big Boi is an excellent rapper, but his voice doesn't cut through and command attention the way 3K's voice does. It's not just his skill, Dre has arguably a top 5 rapper voice

Kendrick's career skyrocketed once he diversified his voice(s). At one point I definitely thought Krit was better than Kendrick but I understand why Kendrick elevated and Krit didn't

I think Lupe's lack of a commanding voice has given him similar issues but he makes up for it in other areas

I also think it's worth noting that Krit's most popular song besides Country Shyt is Mt Olympus, and listen to his voice and delivery on that:manny:

I USED to be a Big KRIT fan, but when he started getting mainstream buzz he dropped the most corny safe music I ever heard and stopped fukking with him :manny:

That garbage romance album he put out was the last straw. I see nikkas blaming Def Jam but that album was mediocre at best so even with the right promo it was still a dud

Rapper cosigns are vastly overrated. You know who else Dr Dre cosigned? Bishop Lamont and Rakim:mjlol: Jay and Dre cosigns really didn't do a whole lot for Cole or Kendrick, especially considering the fact that Jay backed away from publicly co-signing Cole because that's where he thought he failed with nikkas like Memphis Bleek. Cole was better off not having Jay glued to his side

Kendrick got more attention with the Dre cosign, but by then the Kendrick train was already in motion. And The Recipe ain't even one of Kendrick's most popular go to records

He didn't have Kendrick and Cole's crossover appeal. I feel like KRIT is whip/headphone music (or at least his old mixtapes are) - fire, but not something that's gonna ring off in a public place.

he shouldve popped off when he dropped Pay Attention single for Cadillactica. that song is/was a hit. & he had the hype from Mt. Olympus.

everything looked like it was lining up for him to really take off and be “mainstream”. idk if it was the label or what but it just didnt happen

as a rapper he is rapping circles around all of these rappers tho.
probably the best rapper not named kendrick and 4EIAMLT is one of the best albums to drop last decade

Voice and themes of his music.

I think another way to look at it is by asking the question in reverse. Why should he have blown up? The beats are cool but nothing really stands out. He didn't really bring in a new sound/style production wise. What are the main themes of music? One minute he's a pimp, the next he's a loverboy, the next he's a political commentator, the next he's an advocate for everything southern. Then, every album is more or less the same formula. At some point we were pretty much getting the same album over and over except the previous version was slightly better.

He doesn't have a clear story or movement that people can champion. He's a talented rapper who knows how to make cool beats.

Also another thing, his lyrics are kind of a downer. His message is always "im underrated, people don't respect the south, etc." that's the whole attitude of his music (at least for a casual fan). Wale is kinda like that too. If you look at Wiz, Spitta, Kendrick, ASAP, Drake, Cole, Dom, YG, Tyler, etc, you don't really get that vibe. It's not "i should be more popular than i am, I'm too slept on" vibes.
