How come Airbenders never got second abilities

air bending is op as f and most of the second abilties are not suitable for children
suffocating people, cutting through almost any material, expanding the air inside a person to make them explode, etc

They can't sustain it for long and it's not really worth it until Sozin's comet is passing through.

IMO Airbending can get just as aggro as firebending. Airbenders could just cut mofos in half.

I found this diagram last night and I see that some bending abilities overlap or dip into different territory.

Tenzin was the exact reason Airbenders were so limited, them monks had no imagination in regards to the craft

Look at him Vs Zaheer....he washed Zaheer based on his knowledge of Airbender Monk techniques....of which Zaheer didnt know, being a fanboy....but what he did know, was INNOVATION! The man was all about creativity and adjusting on the fly(dont even ask me how) when shyt went south.
The Air Nomads didn't teach innovation...which is why alot of dope techniques got lost to the ages

But Sozin and the people that committed those crimes are long dead.

He got his revenge by ending the imperialism and crippling Ozai for good. The previous avatars wouldn't have cosigned him going into revenge killings. While avatars can make bad decisions they can never be evil since Raava is a spirit of light.

The bad apples were basically the Royal Family and the military, breh. The average FN citizens were shown to either not be aware a war was happening, or bought into the propaganda that it was for "prosperity" as Sozin initially proposed.

Regardless, destroying the Fire Nation would've disrupted the balance as bad the Nomads which took roughly 70 (and ongoing) years to fix until the events of Korra.
