For me personally, I hate to admit it but it was after watching Hajime no Ippo in high school lol. Obviously nothing like the real thing but the story and characters and the introduction to boxing terms in the most general terms got me interested in the sport itself. However, I didn't really know how to catch it until I was an adult and got HBO. First fight I watched serious was Kirkland vs Angulo.

So I'm relatively new to the sport. Only been watching regularly for 4 years. I know some dudes on here been into it for their whole lives.

my father...was a boxing fan who loved to record every fight he could on VHS...it would be nothing back in the late 80s for my uncles or neighbors to come over to watch the afternoon cards or stuff on HBO, Showtime, or PPV since he had the hot box..i remember the excitement of them screaming and carrying on so I joined in..I used to sit there and soak up the stuff they used to talk about and got hooked..add to the fact that when my father a little later on would really restrict TV time for me and my siblings so our brains didnt turn into mush..boxing was one of the very few things that he would waive that rule for...so i watched as much boxing as I could and became the person to let him know when fights were coming on just so I can watch and stay up late...there was no internet in my parents house until 97 or so I had to rely on magazines and the TV guide to know when fights were....the dark ages in comparison to now lol

I was 7 years old. Day before my 8th birthday and I remember my grandfather (RIP) going ape shyt in the living room while I was playing SNES in my bedroom. I'm walking to living room like :dwillhuh:

I go from :dwillhuh: to :gladbron: when I see Holyfield land this crazy ass uppercut on Bowe in the 9th or 10th round.

Next day I go outside and start throwing these jabs at some leaves on a tree. I'm bobbing and weaving and shyt tryna make sure the tree doesn't touch me. My grandfather comes outside and says, "You wanna fight boy? :demonic: " I shrug my shoulders like :yeshrug: and finished throwing lefts and rights at the leaves.

A couple of days later after school I'm at Finnegan Park gym running laps around the ring...

This fight here:wow:

Before that, I was a casual (being that I was 13 and younger back then), but my Dad had this fight on TV and wasnt watching...he was arguing with my moms:rudy:

Me and my lil bro was watching in the living room while they were arguing in the kitchen, so I just tuned in to the TV. Man, Roy was the most swaggerific fighter I had ever seen and he was just cocky as fukk in the ring with how he fought:heh: After RJJ hit him with the "chicken fake" and told the cameras afterwards "i almost killed that boy" I was immediately hooked:banderas:

Needless to say, RJJ was my 1 first favorite fighter and if it wasnt for him, I probably wouldnt have paid attention to the sweet science:mjcry:

Thank You Roy:to:

Last Saturday :wow:

I had watched some of the post prison Tyson fights live with family but I was a kid :manny: Caught a few Broner fights randomly on Showtime..a few of the Floyd fights live but something about the hype of the May/Pacman fight got me more interested in actually following the sport. I still need to learn more cause right now it's just punching to me..I need to read and study the actual science of it and old fights.

Started doing Muay Thai as a 4th or 5th grader, because it was the only gym in the suburbs near my hood and the boxing gym was like a dungeon by comparison... long story short I was never gonna be shyt because I had constant lower body problems (bad knees and bad feet) and picked up boxing like 8-9 years ago when I was 16, but I came in the game with a head start because I had like 10-15 amateur muay thai fights before I ever turned my body sideways and started fukkin with the sweet science :blessed:

I remember watching it with my dad as a kid and thinking it was cool. I didn't really know the fighters except for Tyson because my cousins had Mike Tyson Punch Out on NES. I think what got me into it as an actual fan was when Buster beat Tyson which I saw live and my dad telling me how much of a big deal that was. After that I started paying attention on who the fighters were and never really looked back.
