The average time of game is massive. I have doubts as to how long this will last. I wonder if owners will someday try to jam in more commercials to gain more revenue.
But I have to imagine it's not just the fans who like the faster games. The broadcasters, the people who work at the stadiums, the players all have to enjoy the time it saves them to do other things.
One thing I noticed yesterday -- I can't remember which game it was, but some 2nd baseman dove to his left to snag a hard hit ground ball and threw the runner out at 1st base. It was a heck of a play. And the announcers noted that a year ago it wouldn't have been possible. With the shift, that 2B would have been positioned in such a way that it would have been a routine out. So in a way, these shift restrictions could bring back some more athleticism and defensive excitement to the game that has been missing for a few years.
