Mariners just went 1-5 in divisional games their last 6 and have to close out against the Rangers who now HAVE to win their final 3 to secure the division since we have a tie break :skip:

Rangers could’ve dropped their last series to keep us out and get the Mariners in but dropped one to the Angels :mjlol:

Blue Jays are only a half game up, our odds are looking really good to make the tournament now and stay pissing everyone off if we continue to win :troll:

Somebody make it stop. :to:

“I think it’s more mental than anything,” Báez said. “Just the numbers aren’t there. The confidence at the plate is just not there. I don’t know what’s really happening. It’s not about the strikeouts. I’m still going to chase balls out of the zone and I’m still going to hit them, too.

“I don’t know if it’s timing or I’m not recognizing pitches or trying to do too much."

Anyone remember the 98' Yanks? That team had no weak spots ... at all.
Nobody could beat those bums...nobody.
Every team that tried fell on their face.

Sigh.

Nice to see Torre be humble here.
That 98 team was special. What a time to be alive.

It’s probably overlooked by casual fans now, but it’s worth reminding people that Joe Torre was bashed when he was hired. Nobody thought he was the man for the job. And I believe the rumors were that after firing Buck Showalter, Steinbrenner was going to rehire him.

In a lot of ways, the Yankees succeeded in spite of George Steinbrenner. Not because of him. Gene Michael and Bob Watson were probably the true architects of those teams. And Torre, Randolph, Zimmer and Stottlemyer guided the ship.

That’s not to say Steinbrenner didn’t have an influence. He was willing to spend where necessary. And if his sons had a little more of their father in them (well, RIP Hank), they may be a better team today.
