Buy back the block: Chris Senegal, Houston.

Kinda, mixed feelings about this vid. Not sure I totally agree with the philosophy behind it of solely attracting black high income earners without also investing in the people and infrastructure already in these neighborhoods to help them develop their condition along WITH the neighborhood(not sure if thats's what he meant to imply). But, I'm glad some brehs with money are putting it back into our communities.

Here's a vid from his IG page.

Whatchall think about it?

@macpat They doin what you were talkin about.

I know Chris...He actually is doing the things in the video. It's now as easy as he makes it seem. But he developed a plot of land in the third ward, build high end homes and sold them to mostly black professionals.

Yeah, in my post after that I got a better idea of what he was about, and clarified my stance once I look into it more.

He did exactly what I was thinking should be done- Encouraging members of the black neighborhood diaspora in the burbs to return to the city and set up shop with businesses/start ups, invest, and to live to help revitalize the hood. We need social programs for the homeless and lower income as well.

Sylvester Turner said the same thing(which means he'll get more votes too :lolbron:).

The bosslife cats are out there in Acres Homes buying up property left and right.

4th ward, Studewood/IH, kashmere & trinity gardens, sunnyside, south park all need that same energy. I'd say 4th ward is the most urgent at the moment. I think we'll have to pull some resources together in a treasury or trust to save that neighborhood.

Looks like some activist are trying to revitalize Frenchtown, 5th ward.

Frenchtown Houston

I consider myself as part of the "frenchtown diaspora" seeing as that's the original place my maternal grandparents settled when they left st landry louisiana and moved to houston and plan on investing and setting up shop there one day. I just hope these revitalization efforts properly represent the *AFRICAN AMERICAN* culture and community there and don't try to exoticize it to something it's not and never was. I'm already seeing some iffy stuff in the origin/history section, but everything else seems cool. The fact is that the vast majority of us current gen black Houstonians of lou creole ancestry are of a mix of TXn non-creole and Lou creole ancestry and so is our culture which is pretty much just Houston's black culture at this point. There's no distinctly "creole" culture or community in Houston separate from the rest of the African-American community in Houston.

Also, I like how they slapped a pic of Lightnin Hopkins on there who was a rural East TXn, not of creole stock. lol He was married to a Lou creole black woman after he moved to Houston though.

The H
Maybe not so much a straight up chomo now that I think about it, but def a nikka with chomo tendencies, IF he really did do it.

Still the game is thick here in the H, so this is bound to happen every now and then with a couple off brands.
You need to read the Texas prostitution statute

Buying sex from any person under 18 is a second degree felony

Trafficking or pimping a person under 18 is worse
If u do it repeatedly, you're a goner

Is Carrington's never mentioned, because it's more hood-centric? I never been there on the weekend only on a Monday

Grooves never gets mentioned I noticed to.

I still havent been to The Address, but it looks packed everytime I drove past.

I like Davenport, The Spot, and Cafe 4212. So many spots, you need an app for black tourists.

Talk about gentrification, there is a place on Almeda Road called Axelrad, it's a diverse crowd, with huge outdoor area. Its kind of place you go with a group, but some bad sistas be in there too.

Interesting. :jbhmm:

Oh word. :ohhh: That's gotta be a new spot. Driven by there before, but it was some other restaurant or something right?

oh, black women be in Axelrad? I didn’t know that I might have to check it out one day

This old news, but is it safe to say that Astroworld is the city's biggest music fest at this point?

DsRG3ldU0AAmswD.jpg

In just its second year, Astroworld has become a top competitor in the artist-curated festival market. Its ticket sales have outpaced single-day festivals hosted this year, including Pharrell’s Something In The Water (35,000) and Post Malone’s Posty Fest (45,000).
A Look At Travis Scott’s Second-Annual Astroworld Festival By The Numbers

The only other mega music fest I could think of was that "Day For Night" shyt, but that was some mostly cac EDM shyt and it was shut down cuz the owner got caught up in some  scandal. So, looks like Astroworld took the throne.

Anyway overall I like the Astroworld concept. I hope it continues and grows. TS need to give the stage to more local unsigned artist, especially TSF, on the roster, tho. He did say it was suppose to be in dedication to the city and represent our culture, after all.
