I'm gonna read it...and this is off topic...but why this gotta be a "fukk your paywall" thing? It's ENTIRELY POSSIBLE that this story doesn't get broken without The Athletic, who's subscribers pay the reporters. Being mad about paying for good journalism is ignorant.

it costs 30 bucks for a YEAR of the athletic, the "fukk your paywall" crowd is just cheap or broke. The athletic the best journalistic site out right now

@HHR this is from Beyond the box score

Now, as I wrote last year about the Astros, stealing signs is, in and of itself, not illegal. Rules barring sign-stealing using technology weren’t actually implemented until February of this year, so what the Astros did in 2017 wouldn’t be barred by those rules either.

In fact, the Astros’ set-up seems well-designed to circumvent the rule that landed the Red Sox in hot water for their Apple Watch fiasco. The Red Sox, you see, were punished for having the Apple Watch in the dugout in violation of rules barring technology in the dugout for that exact reason. The Astros learned from Boston’s mistake, it seems, and ensured their low-tech system included no technology in the dugout at all. The television screen, which would be barred in the dugout, sat outside of it.

It's interesting, but does nothing to absolve then, imo. If they believe they complied with the rules, they could just come out and say that. They're not doing that. Because they know they were cheating.

I’m sure they are trying to get info on where the camera was positioned and try to get some video feed. Might be coming in the next few days

Report: Houston Executive Suggested Scouts Use Cameras To Steal Signs
November 16th, 2019 at 10:50pm CST • By Dylan A. Chase
Another entry has been logged in the ongoing saga surrounding allegations of improper sign stealing by the 2017 Astros. Earlier this week, we first heard accusations that the team used illegal technology–including a center field camera and a clubhouse tunnel television–to try to decode opponent signs. Several former Houston employees, including pitcher Mike Fiers, issued on-record comments regarding the team’s system of sign stealing, and league officials were said to be in the process of gathering “tangible evidence” in regard to the team’s alleged improprieties. Tonight’s follow-up report from Ken Rosenthal and Evan Drellich of The Athletic now indicates that the team’s use of camera technology may not have been limited to center field (link).

An Astros executive, per the report, emailed several club scouts in Aug 2017 with the suggestion that cameras be used to steal opponent signs. The club was interested in preparing its sign-stealing practices in advance of the 2017 postseason, and the email’s sender–who goes unnamed in the report–urged scouts to try multiple methods to get a better view into the opposition’s dugout.

“What we are looking for is how much we can see, how we would log things, if we need cameras/binoculars, etc.,” the sender wrote in an email message to Houston scouts. “So go to game, see what you can (or can’t) do and report back your findings.” This type of organizational messaging, which is said to have also extended to phone calls and chats within a group Slack channel, reportedly led to a “confounded feeling” among the club’s scouting group, with several scouts voicing their dismay to team management.

theres Ton of new reports and they all lead to the same thing. The gray area and there wasn’t rules against it during the ‘17 season. It’s gonna come down to finding the camera they used

Bruh....that last report about Houston execs is damning

It is, but even in that article it talks about it not being common to ask scouts to look to steal signs. I’m not here to say what they did was right. It’s just the rules weren’t in place till thus year

Who cares if "the rules weren't in place until this year"? :gucci:

Stop making excuses, it's CHEATING. Plain and simple.

Also, that's BS excuses because the Astros didn't stop stealing signs in 2017. They have been doing it pretty much continuously since 2017. The Astros have definitely stole signs illegally in 2018 & 2019. C'mon breh, stop it :stopitslime:.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
The end result of this fukkery goes beyond the title.

What if a pitcher got sent back to the minors over a game he pitched against the Astros and never made it back up.

How many players got more money. How many players lost money.

shyt is foul. Yet Barry Bonds still isnt in the HOF, and how they're not treating this with the same intensity as performance enhancing drugs is :mindblown:
