1. When i say modern I was only speaking in relation to the time period. I mean you had Krush Groove and other hip hop movies in the 80's but this was the first one of the next generation. Hip Hop going through a new phase from like 89, 90, 91 and changed again in 92. For me I was too young when Krush Groove and Breakin dropped, they dropped in the early/mid 80's. House Party was the first one that came out when a lot of people my age were able to see the trailer and then go see it.
2. House Party 3 had it's moments but it just didn't fit in that era. 1994 hip hop had changed. Kid N Play was still relavent musically when their first two movies dropped. When the third movie came out they were pretty much out of the game and old which is why they had to rely on so many other people to carry the movie.
As far has how it morphed, I think whoever owned the rights to the franchised came to the conclusion that House Party wasn't about Kid N Play and that it can be about any group of kids trying to get put on. The sad think about this house party 5 flick is that nikkas don't need to throw a party and hope a record exec shows up. Social media has taken over.
But see that's the problem. House Party IS about Kid N Play. It's their saga. It's a complete arc on how they go from horny. rebellious, fun loving Hip Hop teenagers, to Kid going to college and Play learning about the importance of friendship and responsibility, to both of them being grown men running their own music management business. It's a complete trilogy of two black men who grew throughout the different eras of Hip Hop. It's not about "getting put on" it's a Hip Hop coming of age tale....
