As a fan of the original British Series (Ian Richardson was great as Francis Urqhart), I have to say this is a great adaptation. They did an awesome job. Was glad to see Michael Dobbs who was involved with the original series and wrote the book is involved with this new series.

For those waiting on Season 2, check out the British version on Netflix in the mean time.

Very similar, though they've changed some things for the new series to give it more depth and length. This isn't to take away from the original series since British series are notoriously short (4 episodes per season in this case). I haven't watched all the episodes of the new series but for example, Francis's wife is merely supportive of her husband and the non-profit side story is non-existent in the British series. Also another interesting thing of note, the congressman sleeping with his secretary, in the British series, the secretary is played by a sista and she is a campaign strategist. Plus there are several side stories not in the original series

However, the Machiavellian conniving nature of Francis that is the heart of the series is still there in all its glory :smugdraper:

man i think putting all the eps at once is a blessing and a curse. Its nice being able to watch as many shows as you want. but its almost impossible to talk about the show with the brehs since everybody is on a different ep.
- I just finished ep 2 which i liked more than the 1st one. But that dude's wife is kinda shady. I dont know what her ultimate game plan is. She seems like she's playing her husband and those cats at work but for what

- one thing that confused me about that 1st episode is who sent the reporter the picture of the congressman looking at her ass. I'm sure there were a lot more inside doing the same thing. It was that photo that prompted her to try to hook up with him.

I haven't watched all of the new series, so I don't know what direction they're taking with the series in the US yet. I know just from watching up to episode 4 they seem to be taking in a bit of a different direction but still following the major plot points of the original series. So yeah it might in some areas.

However, season 2 of the original series has to do with the conflict between the monarchy and the government so it would be very hard to adapt season 2 of the US series to follow the same plot. Maybe they'll do the conflict between two other institutions in US government as a parallel (white house vs congress?).

I'll just say that while watching the new series, even though I can sit there and point out scenes where "Ah that is like when they did it in the original series" there is still so much new material that its still not 'spoiled' in my case. I just think of it have the same type of characters that are in different universes. From that perspective, watching the original series wouldn't spoil it.

Damn, I see a few people watched the whole season over the weekend.

How many episodes is it?

If this is successful Netflix might change the game with their original shows

This, Arrested Development, That show Ricky Gerveis is writing
