Hot 97 has banned Tekashi 69 from Summer Jam

I feel you I am not a fan of his either but this is when you separate personal feelings with business.....the numbers don't lie

Hot 97 has 1.8 million youtube subscribers.....AK has 1.6 .....a single guy has just about the same amount of subscribers and gets more views and video engagements than a corporation...

When you look at concerts for all the "hot artists" now it's mostly kids 16-21 ....this is the exact demographic that AK is catering too....Hot 97's demo graphic at the moment with Ebro, Flex, Clue, etc is 28-45+ folks that grew up in the "golden era"

Hot 97 HAS to grab the younger demo in order to thrive but they also have to do so by digital platforms outside of live radio....AK does this. He's doing it with Complex and his own brand. He has the biggest music blog IG on the planet with a young demo...it's smart business to get in front of that and leverage that.....complex understood it ...Hot 97 and old man ebro and fighting a losing battle

I think Sean Cotton and say cheese tv is a better gatekeeper. Ak is much bigger but Sean showcase a lot of guys before they blow. Not to mention he was active during the Police brutality protest speaking on television. Akademiks on the other hand was posting pro cop bullshyt on thecoli and on twitter. Insulting Michael Brown and his family.

I addressed this to an earlier poster with the stats..

Again you guys are thinking of this in terms of personal how you feel. This is a business.. You need views, clicks, engagement. If you think Hot 97 plays music because they want folks to enjoy music you don't understand how it works. Just like TV stations don't have shows because they like showing programs. Music exists so you can stay tuned in to hear the commercials, TV shows solely exists so you can watch the commercials not the other way around.

It's about paying the bills. I personally can't stand AK but for the sake of business and getting an additional 1 million subscribers and 1 million followers to engage with my businesses helps me get more Ad revenue to keep the lights on. It's a business.


EDIT: This is exactly why more and more record labels are signing YouTube stars and listeners....because they are selling out tours and selling streams and downloads....the record companies get it ...
