So are any of y'all in the process of automating your home? I don't mean turning your lights off and on with your voice, but actual automation?

As an example...I work late, get home around 11:00 PM. On days that I work my bedroom lights will automatically come on when I come within 1,000 feet of my house between 10:50 and 11:15.

When I leave the gym my wife automatically gets a text to start breakfast.

The things you can do are really wild.

I have a Google Home hub and a few mini's, Ring, Nest, and August lock... probably gonna get a few lightbulbs and I have to buy window treatments so I'll probably do the Lutron ones that can be automated

I don't know much about this stuff so I'm curious to see what kind of other things you can do

To elaborate on my previous post.

Harmony Hub
Smartthings (open/close sensors, leak sensor near my water heater (which saved me once already :wow:). also got some smart plugs hooked up to the TV/Receiver which, depending on the day turns everything off after midnight)
Skybell (smart doorbell)
Lightify with about 10 bulbs, most of them outside. Scheduled to turn on at dusk and off at dawn. 2 RBG bulbs in the living room
Blink Wi-Fi cameras
separate wired set with NVR outside
First Gen echo and 3rd gen dot.
Ecobee3 Thermostat, sets temp low when I'm not there and turns on when I pull up the driveway.
Smoke/Co2 alarm that I've yet to mount, I need to get on that.

Like I said I am going to go for the Schlage smart door lock next, also need to invest in some smart light switches because my toddler likes to play with the switches which makes the smart bulb useless.

Security cameras work with Google assistant
Various hue bulbs/ blooms etc
Google home
Google mini X2
Google home hub
Shield TV
X3 smart plugs
Chromecasts
Thermostat

I'm looking to install a home alarm within the next two months but leaning away from a smart system as I think I want something hard wired.

Because of the times i used to travel a lot for work i had installed Eufy smart switches to remotely turn lights on and off at my house using my phone. Either that or set them on a schedule to turn on on their own. I started with the outside flood lights but have since added some of the inside lights too to control certain lights to give people the impression that i'm home. I also installed a Nest Thermostat to remotely control the AC/Heat when im not home.

Here are some of the system i have installed:

These switches were selling for $24.99 when i started buying them. THey have since gone up to $30 but sometimes they go on sale like 2 for $40. They are very popular because they do NOT require you to buy an $80 hub like the ones that they sell at Home Depot.

The Nest Thermostat is probably the best $100 ive ever spent. They usually sell for close to $250 but during December there was a sale taking $50 off and then my electric company also added another $99 instant rebate taking it down from $250 to $104. I jumped on that shyt and havent looked back since. It detects when you're home and turns on the heat/AC and then shuts its self off when you are gone. When you're home it keeps the temp at your set temperature (say 70˚) but when you're not home it allows it to go down to lower temperatures (say 61˚) to save electricity.

I recently bought the Kasa smart 3way switch kit. It serves the same purpose as the Eufy model which i use for my exterior flood lighs and porch lights but this is for 3-way switches since the Eufy models dont support 3way. If you dont know the difference between single-pole and 3-way switching the diagram below explains it. Dont be intimidated by the wiriging. It's much simpler than the diagram shows

  • Single-pole = 1 switch turns on one or more lights
  • 3-way = 2 (or more) switches control 1 single light. This is use for large rooms with multiple entrances like living rooms etc where you can have one switch at each entrance to control the same light.

I also have 2 smart sprinkler systems in the yard. I think my next smart home project will involve cameras and/or a driveway sensor. We'll see.

I wanna try these but i have a problem. THey dont make them for the storm door i have in front of my actual door.

After my house was broken into i reinforced it with Larson storm doors which are shatte r-proof and guaranteed not to be broken into. like the one below. But as you can see the handle itself is a different size/type and from my research they dont make Schlage locks for those yet

So i have to wait. But when i wanna give someone access to my house i use a lockbox to leave them a key they can use to access the house.
