Box office success is almost always measured in the ratio of box office to budget, not box office minus the budget. It goes back to the 'a movie has to gross twice its budget at the box office to break even' argument.
Right but...
if blackhat after the theatres took their cut grossed 10 million for the studio, that means it lost at least 60 million for the studio
If gunman brought back 5-6 million to the studio it lost 35 million for the studio.
Blackhats the bigger bomb.
I mean, even if rock the kasbah brough the studio 0 dollars, the budget is only 15 million so they would only lose 15 million.
The rest is just whatever.
I mean technically tomorrowland probably lost the studio at least 80 million after its all said and done.
I get it,its just a bizzare way to look at it.
