Yep. I was in school a million years ago, but I seem to recall that Latin was a language that derives from the the Roman's. The modern languages of Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and French are derived from Latin and are called Roman(ance) languages. They are all European languages, so I don't know how anybody that are descendants of native people in the Americas don't realize that they are speaking the languages of the colonizers/enslavers of their ancestors.

Most Latin/south american countries tend to be mixtures of African and european ancestry as far as race goes.
