Not really.

It depends where people are from in said countries. Some areas are blacker. Some areas are whiter. Some areas are more indigenous. For Example, Not every Puerto Rican has the same Ancestry. Someone born in an area where African slaves settled maybe much blacker than some who is from an area in Puerto Rico where European Immigrants Settled (after slavery during late 1800 -1900). It's different for each country.

White Puerto Ricans - Wikipedia

Puerto Rican's of majority European descent make up most of Puerto Rico. 75.8%

It's ok to call white latinos white. We don't call African Americans with 10% European ancestry White:francis: so why are we calling people with majority European ancestry non white? That makes no sense.

Studies have shown that the ancestry of the average Puerto Rican (including all races) is about 64% European, 21% West and North African (including Canary Islander Guanche), and 15% Taino/Amerindian, with European ancestry strongest on the west side of the island and West African ancestry strongest on the east side, and consistent levels of Taino ancestry throughout the island.

As an aside, a lot of white Puerto Ricans are not white
Then what are they? I feel like people like to move the goal post of POCness when it comes to European descendants in Latin Americans

If group of people who continue to test 70% - 100 European and largely favor visually their European ancestry. It's time to stop ignoring the elephant in room. Where do we draw the line on POCness is the question.

Calling an individual who visually is more European in phenotype and ancestry a POC does nothing but minimalize the actual POC experience.

Saying someone who is like Ricky Martin or J Lo is a POC and comparable to a Tego Calderon is not fair and it is actually white washing the actual history, discrimination and colorism that is prevalent in not just in Puerto Rico but in Latin America.

The fact of the matter is these white or majority Latin Americans ( to certain extent mestizos) are the ruling and privileged class in Latin America. Just because these countries happen to have more white people with slightly colorful backgrounds doesn't mean that aren't privileged in the frame of white supremacy.

No one is saying their arent many mixed raced people in Puerto Rico but these ancestry test are really showing the European stamp on Puerto Rico is very visable.

And studies have shown that many southern White Americans are a little bit black.

A lot of Southern whites are a little bit black

Where do we draw the line?

POC are comparing themselves to people who were legally considered white prior to 1970s.

Take it up with the census and their one drop rule. What line? Most of these people are just the "spoke on wheel" for White Supremacy. Meaning, a token. These people have 21% African ancestry (whole island). So, people like J Lo. and co are POC. Hell, most people on the island mix Santería in with Roman-Catholicism. Which is an offshoot of the Yoruba religion. They to me are POC. Skin tone can be weird (discounting albinos).

P.S. a person like Michelle Rodriguez would be a POC.

My first encounter with the term "Grande" was at taco bell. Last I checked it was Mexican fast food (well, Mexican inspired for you snobs) and Big in Spanish is Grande...so obviously you can see how me and other people can make that connection:

italians and portuguese can both have spanish sounding last names

i grew up with a lot of portugese who's last names were Ribeiro

Northern Italians?

no idea, i don't know shyt about italians like that or the geographical location regarding Italy and appearance traits

but it's not uncommon for Italian, Greek and Portuguese people to have people assume they are hispanic by appearance. Italians and Greeks have similar traits and when i lived in South Florida a lot of mexicans assumed i was part hispanic and would try talking to me in spanish and would be surprised when i told them i wasn't

That's not the whole island. That is the average Puerto Rican not all Puerto Rican's. So NO they are not all POC.

You are clearly trying classify white people as POCs.

Here are ancestry result from Puerto Rican's that average more European Ancestry.

If white Latinos aren't white then black Americans aren't black.:francis: It's only fair.

I never said J lo was of color nor did I say Ricky Martin was of color either.

Fact is Puerto Rico had the opposite of the one drop rule where if you could prove you had white ancestry you could identify as white. The law was called Regla del Sacar

So to this day , folks that could pass as mixed or light skinned black folks can and do identify as white in Puerto Rico. But in the IS they are not seen or treated as white

So you can't just look at the census since only 11% of Puerto Rican's identify as mixed race or other when we know the majority of them are mixed race

1st chick is 18% African and it kinda shows with the indigenous side.

2nd chick is 11% African and has 8% indigenous.

3rd dude is 16% African and 15% indigenous.

These people are POC (or other) even though they have majority European. See, it doesn't work the same for Whites as it does Blacks. Ask the Aryan race. Look at the outdated extinct 1 drop rule. They are not Black per say, but they aren't White White if that makes sense.

Then white Americans with minimal non white ancestry are non white too. You can't have it
both ways.

Black Americans aren't black.

You see the double standards.
