I'm listening to Miles' Get Up With It for the first time (great underrated album btw) and i'm on the track Calypso Frelimo and i'm like "there's something familiar about this :jbhmm:" but 10 minutes in it becomes undeniable. This is the Mario Underground theme :damn:

Whole track is fire but skip to the 10 minute mark for the clearest example. I never knew this....maybe i'm late to this but Nintendo using jazz fusion inspired 8bit music is wild to me :heh:

Whenever Nintendo tries to sue creators for copyright infringement for sampling their songs they need to use this as evidence of fair use

Koji Kondo, the composer, played in a jazz band in grade school. He had a similar upbringing as Pharrell.. but he had Nintendo instead of Teddy Riley. You cant have any type of deep musical knowledge without studying what black folks did.

Them Japanese composers plagiarize the hell out of everything. :mjlol:

Go read up on Kenji Yamamoto. Dude plagiarized the entire DBZ Budokai and DBZ Kai soundtracks. I’ve seen a couple jacked songs from Nobuo Uematsu as well (no disrespect:whoa:):mjlol:

Koji Kondo took inspiration from several sources. Didn't know Miles was one of them.

I thought he got the inspiration from this:

Overworld inspiration

Starman theme

Rep to you both.,..you can definitely hear the inspiration.
IDK what's being said but Summer Breeze is :ahh:

I'll see if I can find the videos but Nintendo most iconic themes from Mario to link all are samples.

yup

a lot of Jazz remakes/samples

The theme of The Legend of Zelda was originally supposed to be Ravel's Bolero b/c they thought it was public domain.

But to be fair, when they found out it wasn't, koji Kondo re-wrote the music in one night. :leon:

If you play them back to back you can definitely hear the inspiration.

I wouldn't put it past them

Koji Kondo music always seemed inspired by jazz and freeform stuff
