2. Beady Mason, a philanthropist and real estate black pioneer for black LA being one of the founding members of the first African Methodist church in LA. Black LA attracting black ppl from the south during the first great migration wave. That first black community in the early 1900s being upwardly mobile and wealthy, and WEB Dubois visiting LA for the first time and being impressed with the black community out there.
3. The California eagle black newspaper being founded by Charlotta Bass and her husband. Black bookstores being founded on the west side of South central. Watts riots and white flight. Black gangs like The Slausons being formed to protect black kids from white gangs like the “spook hunters”. Historic South Central and the Jazz district begin to become overcrowded, and due to white flight, black ppl begin to by homes with marked up rates on the more affluent west side of South Central. Racist LAPD police chief William h Parker warns of “negro invasion of Los Angeles” from the southern US. Japanese and black ppl live side by side in crenshaw district. Black ppl only group to still do business with Japanese amidst the wwii “yellow panic”. Black upwardly mobile ppl and middle class in Los Angeles who are pro civil rights get marked as “red” communist. Black bookstores in crenshaw under surveillance by Cointelpro.
4. The Slausons, and Businessmen gangs turn on each other and would lay the foundation for the bloods, Crips, pirus, 60s, etc. middle/working class black LA showcased in tv shows like Moesha. Tom Bradley becomes first black mayor of LA in the 70s.
