Even you believe (wrongly) Hip Hop came from Caribbean culture this still doesn't make sense. Hip Hop predates Dancehall :childplease:

It doesn't matter. This narrative is based on a complete disregard and disrespect of Black American history and even Jamaican history to a degree.

Okay but how are you going to tell me what I believe though, I don’t even know you

- dancehall comes from reggae
- reggae comes from rocksteady
- rocksteady comes from ska

and ska is derived from the foundational ados motown sound down to the very structure that makes reggae what it is today. listen to early bob marley when he was a kid he does ska and that is motown all the way. ska also infused elements of jazz and the blues

look we need to stop this disrespectful & hideous lie that jamaica invented hip hop just because white journalists connected to fab 5 freddy and kool herc gave him and jamaican toast credit. when the truth is that mario & flowers predated kool herc by some years and he was just the little immigrant homie who later got the biggest sound system b

and two, herc was playing all foundational black american music at those jams. where the fukk nikkas think those drum breaks came from the toots & the maytals? lol nah man it was a whole lotta james brown. wasn't nobody rockin with no west indian music herc said it himself

It's that myth that's been spread since the 1980s that people incorrectly keep repeating....but it's slowly being bushed when you do the knowledge

@IllmaticDelta This video has the OG Jamaican artists telling the truth, while Americans are telling the lies. shyt is crazy!

Knew Tariq would have something to say : mjlol:

Yeah, Rap music as a genre is older than dancehall. The jive patter of Afram radio dj's is older and where Jamaicans got "toasting" from. Dancehall the genre was actually influenced by late 1970s early rap records that jamaicans heard. Repost:

Not quite....for one the toasting (freelanced style) in Jamaica owes it origin to Afram jive/radio dj's and then the modern Deejay style (more syncopated) was influenced by early HipHop

..........then they heard American Rap in the late 1970's

...and then in the early 1980's modern jamaican dancehall was born when they started using HipHop-Rap style syncopation to the beat when the jamaica toasting was always freelanced/not relating directly to the beat

this is basically all confirmed by Supercat

Supercat basically hints at it here

Super Cat was saying specifically that Rappers Delight was HUGE in Jamaica.

shouts to @The Ruler 09 for posting that.

.
they started doing rappers delight knockoffs in jamaica right after sugar hill gang started bubbling
