the podcast still hasn't been done? I had a blast one the one i was on and definitely have been wanting to do another one. I'm going to try. I've mapped out my studies for this weekend and the superbowl kind of make it annoying since i know i'm going to get multiple people asking me to go to their party. So my wing chun kung fu practice runs from 8:30-10:30 then i'll head to the gym probably be done and showered by 1pm. I'll do some managerial accounting for an hour and by 2 i probably can give an hour and then work on some corporate finance until i get ready for whatever place i'm watching the superbowl...
lets do this!
.... blah blah ur schedule.. Anyway, how long have you been practicing wing chun? Are you in a authentic class with lineage? If you're ever visiting da D (which Idk y you ever would be), you should def message me and check out our academy.
also what is the D? Dc or delaware?
the first guy i went to did have lineage and showed me pictures. He was originally taekwondo tournament champ and in the 70's learned jeet kune do. He was pretty awesome but then he stopped teaching the class and had his underling teach it and he taught more brazilian jui jitsu then i would have liked and when i went they never did any of the traps or lop saos so i didn't feel like i was learning wing chun, they did more feet movement. There were also too many damn teenagers and i hated taking it easy on the young kids and the classes were too big they also did a lot of cardio which i felt took up the time of learning concepts. I work out 6 days a week i don't need a fitness class i just want to learn form and concepts.
The second guy I go too now is only about 3-4 people per class all adults and he actually taught me about ip man and really focuses on wing chun here is the website not sure about his lineage though. here is his website

cool cool... First off, lol the D is DETROIT, AKA, the greatest city in the history of man.
Anyway, mine has lineage and it's a pretty good school. You can check it out on this site. Detroit Kung Fu Academy - Traditional Martial Arts Training in Detroit Michigan - Wing Chun in the Ip Man Lineage - Part of the Moy Tung Ving Tsun (Wing Chun) Family
I friend of mine is a MMA fighter. He went Thailand for a while to study Muy Thia. then he went China and learned some other forms. Now he's at a MMA gym learning BJJ. I was a better boxer than him in HS, but now he can destroy me in under 3 sec. ...
So I researched and watched IP Man and decided that I wanted my main form to be Wing Chun.. it's practical, str8 forward, effective, and is made so that you can defeat larger opponents in a street fight. Plus it's sorta like meditation or yoga in the way it helps you focus in life.
I suggest that you do learn the forms, and do the punching and blocking drills with a partner at least a few times a week. Its a good work out, plus if you are ever in a fight you will unconsciously not get hit at all- (more than likely).
Technically you're sifu has lineage back to IP Man because JKD forms came from B Lee philosophies, but really isn't using a pure form of Wing Chun. JKD is something that Bruce Lee developed and so it is a combination of different forms incorporated into what IP Man taught him. I think that in the West, especially America people and situations are different, people are strong and people are crazy, so JKD accounts for all that fukkery (makes you adapt and more powerful). I think that if you are a master at Wing Chun, that's still all you need. It just takes a while to master it.
Yeah you want small classes but you shouldn't not want the teenagers. It's idea to practice with people both your junior and senior. Also, with JKD try to stick with wing chun basics at the core of your training.. Bruce Lee was a beast, his students were beast.. they could afford to be more fluid in their form because they could knock a man across the room at ease... their movements were too fast for eyeballs to pick up... regular people can't do that.
Exactly what my new sifu told me. Jdk is for people who don't even need to use the traps anymore because they can see the openings and can move in quickly. There are so many movements though! I bought Samuel Kwok's book with the the three forms but with a mirror and practice its cool meditation and the stance helps strengthen the muscles needed for when you actually are in a fighting stance and need to utilize the movements. I like wing chun as an actual self defense tool where you an realistically use it in a self defense scenario its not like bjj which is more oriented towards sport fighting but its definitely cool to know different stuff. Wing chun won't work as well in ufc because you wear gloves and aren't allowed to eye gouge and use elbows where in a real life self defense situation your just looking for quickest line of attack and be able to get yourself out of a bad situation.
I'll keep this in mind if i ever find myself out in Detroit Rock City man thanks!
sounds good... also chinaboxer on youtube.com has a good page. He is wing chun, but he's young and practical, and teaches about practical sh1t that will help if you fighting another person who knows another form, like bjj.
awesome! subscribed to the channel
You really didn't know Detroit was the D bro...lol.
I thought you were trolling haha
lol, I don't get it. Detroit has always been the D. The only other place that tries to call themselves the D is Dallas, but they started decades after.
Or I coulda been saying this D1ck.. but I don't troll and yall know I'm not on that ... sh1t.
