I take a slight bit offense to Leyet saying our political convos are "shallow" when he doesn't even understand what we're talking about most of the time.

Leyet on the joint where it was me you, Looney, Zero, and Brokewave, you didn't say a word and left the call, then got on the board and ranted about how we're talking about bullshyt.

We were talking about the Ryan plan and its policy implications: whether or not these policies of privatizing Medicare, slashing the safety net, eliminating the capital gains tax, eliminating the estate tax, promising ends to loopholes that are not specified, what it would do to the deficit, etc. and if some of these policies would possibly be implemented by either party and what it would mean the people and the economy.

How is that bullshyt? That is meat and potatoes policy discussion, not shallow talk about who scored the political point of the day like how you see on the mainstream media. I think our political discussions are superior to what you usually see in the media because we spend more time talking about the nitty gritty of policy, and less about the popularity contest aspects of it. You can't say it's shallow and bullshyt just because you didn't do your homework and know what we were talking about.

i got dropped from the call :stopitslime:

At what point did you get dropped? I thought you were there and silent for a while we were talking about the Ryan plan. And you could've called back right?

Either way, you got on the board and ranted about how the discussion was bullshyt and say we were just talking about "a politician's plan" when really we were discussing fundamental, important issues like the future of Medicare, the tax code, the deficit and how to spur economic growth. That was pretty silly imo.

What substance do you ever bring to the table other than rambling about how you hate the Fed and how we should raise tariffs, which somehow is supposed to come about without voting?

I've been on a grizzly so I haven't tossed around ideas and shyt much. But one of the things I did talk to the Geekset podcast about at one point was changing the name of the podcast.

Just as far as getting more listeners. I mean, Higher Learning, if it shows up, sounds like a podcast about college. Just a thought. We never had a new name or anything and it was just some shyt we were tossing around. But you guys seem to keep the podcast more local so that's cool.

Just a thought.

I don't know about a new name...maybe. I think we could use a new logo though. Zero, please don't take it personal, but I'm not really feeling the image of the dudes around the fire with the letters over it too much.

I think we could use a more simplified, concise logo that looks dope as opposed to a scene...I don't know, like some kind of modified hieroglyph or something. Or a collage of various symbols. I could brainstorm some things or sketch something, then maybe someone could design it.

I'm not the biggest fan of the logo either, but I get what zero was going for. But I'm just saying, I think we could toss out names and see if people like something else better.

I always thought that the podcast should end or begin with or end with this though:

That's assuming you're keeping that name. You can cut out the Nicki Minaj part from the beginning, but the "Can we get much Higher.." part fits perfectly IMO. Then when the beat drops it would great to introduce the current edition of the podcast right there.

I'm not particularly attached to the logo. I just didn't like that red and black old badge. We should request if Orbital Fetus can make us something if we have an idea for a new logo

what I was thinking for intro and outro music is to have one of the coli producers make us something then there's zero copyright issues

we haven't discussed any copyright issues with the actual episodes btw . I guess we can just put this license on them

Creative Commons — Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported — CC BY-NC-ND 3.0

(i.e. attribution required when reposting, no commercial reuse, no derivative works)

I guess regardless of what we go for--all rights reserved or this creative commons license--the question is who actually holds the copyright? I guess we can say that each vocal segment is copyrighted by the speaker themselves

No idea, I couldn't get into a copyright law class this semester. :manny:

Your logo is fine, I'm just a less is more person. Like Penn St. jerseys or the old Michigan jerseys, etc.

ummm i did call zero back, and i couldnt get on the call. but thats not even the point.

i find it interesting that when im not talking you complain.

but when i do start talking im ranting about the same thing over and over again, and you complain.

get your shh together

and for the last time you non-reading non comprehending HL vagrant, i have never advocated for everyone to stop voting and neglect the political/voting process altogether. even at my most extreme i always said a certain percentage of the population needs to stay active in the political process, even though the process has become impotent, for the simple fact that when people are not paying enough attention to the politicians they go ham with their greed and exploitation.

now...

does it matter if i personally vote? no.

does it matter if you victoria von doom vote? no.

does it matter if anyone in HL votes? probably not.

does it matter if millions of people around the country in key demographics dont vote?

thats a dumb fukking question.

so for the last time, stop applying this "nobody should vote" ideology to me because i dont support that.

once obama had this in the bag, which was sometime last year, we should have shifted our focus to more important political and economic issues... but instead here we are 13 months later talking about mitt romneys fukking tax returns.

yea, thats gonna improve a lot of people's quality of life.... idiots.

:mindblown: This may have been the most absurd asinine, bullshyt copout I've ever heard on this board. Maybe even in my entire life period.

"I don't tell people not to vote, I'm just telling you that it doesn't matter if you vote."

You have said over and over and over here and on :hamster: stuff like "fukk voting, the political system is for suckas, you're a sucker and an idiot if you vote, voting is useless, etc." You've even gone as far as to say if you do vote, that deserves condemnation because you're supporting an oppressive system.

You constantly distort, modify, and alter your own argument you have typed on record, then say people lack reading comprehension because they hold you to exactly what you said.

Do you do this shyt in real life offline?

Leyet's girl: "Hey Leyet you said were going to your cousin's house. I saw your car outside of the strip club."

Leyet: "Well I did go to my cousin's house. I picked him up. Then we went to the strip club."

Leyet's girl: "Yeah but you didn't tell me you went to the strip."

Leyet's girl: "I said I was going to my cousin's house because that's where I went directly when I left the house. I didn't tell you where I was going after that."

Leyet's girl: ":mindblown: You lied. You had me thinking you were at your cousin's house all night but you giving your money to nasty ass hoes at the strip club motherfukker!"

Leyet: "I told you I was going to my cousin's house. That's where I went. Your twisting my words up as usual. You need to work on your reading compehension."

1) it doesnt matter if you vote... and it also doesnt matter if the people on this board vote because at most youre talking about 5000 votes spread across the country. do you understand?

2) i still say fukk voting in this prez election... aint nobody holding these politians accountable for their actions anyway. we need to reform this system at a much more fundamental level that these elections can provide.

but at the same time a certain portion of the population needs to stay engaged in this election to make sure obama gets elected and that the rest of the politicians dont run the country off a cliff before we can save the day and get this thing turned around.

so do you see how it's possible to hold both ideas at the same time?

yes it's "fukk voting."

but it's also vote when necessary for the greater good.

but in the case of this current prez election it is not necessary for us to vote cuz you got varsity playing jv. the republicans were done when they couldnt even produce a legitimate candidate over a year ago.

3) believing significant change is going to come through this current political system DOES make you a sucka, sucka.

4) voting is this election IS useless, because obama got it already. see above.

5) and voting in these elections DOES deserve condemnation on some level because a la lupe by voting AT ALL you are CONDONING the actions of the US government. by voting for a candidate you are saying this person is the best person for the job, when clearly all these muthafukkas in office are criminals.

and the reason you cant understand how these contradictory ideologies can coexist at the same time is the reason you dont fully understand politics. nothing personal.

regurgitating cnbc talking points about mitt romney budgets and obama foreign policy does not mean you understand whats really going on. just like regurgitating bloomberg talking points about quantitative easing doesnt mean you understand the economy.

and that shyt you wrote with me and my girl was whack as fukk. plus she's finer and smarter than any girl you have or have ever had so please do not speak of the goddess ever again.

:laff: What's sad is you actually think any of that horseshyt makes any sense and don't see the inherent contradictions.
