Honestly now that this is unavoidable. I’m morbidly curious how this is actually going to work.

The tariffs impact would be blamed on Biden.

This will have immediate impacts as services are disrupted that can’t be blamed on Biden or the Dems.

What's also curious is as many liberals voted against this, how many conservatives actively voted for this? What tangible benefits does it offer besides destroying the federal government and attacking 'woke'?

It falls under the same “run the country like a business” myth.

The federal government is a hinderance for state rights. Like allowing companies to dump whatever waste they want into the water. But strangely never near these rich people’s homes. Just public land, sacred native territory, and national parks.

Sell off a bunch of services to private equity. Housing is going to get a lot worse for low income Americans.

You see it. This is how you further cement an oligarchy.

These guys are going to purposely run government poorly and then turn around and blame government and these folks eat it up.

Do you all know what the Jones Act is? It was a law passed in the early 20th century that required ships that go between US ports to be US built and the sailors on them have to be US citizens. The merchant marine and inland towing (grain/coal barges on the Mississippi and Ohio rivers) is a US citizen only employed industry where people with only a HS degree or GED can make $50k entry level and $100k+ as a captain or engineer. I know folks in the industry. Some of the best paid are in LA and TX on the OSVs (offshore supply vehicles) going out to the oil platforms in the Gulf.

Anyway, like 80% of US boat makers and probably the same number of mariners are in red states. Last week there has been a lot of flurry of threads on mariner forums and Reddit since Project 2025 proposes repealing the Jones Act and allowing US shippers to use foreign (read Filipino, Indian, Chinese) labor and foreign made ships. People are scared though a lot are like "Trump wouldn't do that, he is America First!"

Don't read the fine print before you vote brehs :mjlol:

i don't think this is one of the heritage/cato suggestions that trump will go along with. the jones act works almost like a tariff. it forces an industry to stay at home and the consumers pay the increased costs.

That assumes they will tell him what he’s repealing in exact terms.

Trump is one is of his own low information voters

Federal agencies are DOA but I do wonder how much pushback Republicans in Congress are actually going to give or are they assuming they got power to do this from fully informed voters and not cross Trump.

well they do have a mandate to make bad decisions

whether they're willing to cut the throats of their constituents and lucrative interconnected contracts/business owners at their own peril is another matter...

The House is gonna close no matter what so wouldn’t say mandate and the party in power usually gets wiped out in the first midterms. Then Trump is basically a hobbled authoritarian.

He's clearly going to be relying on executive action this time around. No legislating pretense this time around like there was in 2017.
