I never could get too deep into Anime except for Pokemon growing up, but lately I think I'm starting to see more of the appeal. I just watched Akira (1988) and I loved the neo dystopian feel, the dark gritty 80s animation. Any other films similar to that id like? I tend to like the darker, 80s and 90s style. Any good anime horror?

Another suggestion OP is Angel's Egg. An 80s anime film that explores religion and individuality. While generally considered more of an "arthouse" anime its dark harrowing atmosphere has been very influential. It's on YouTube.
