Exactly what I came in to say. When's the last time you saw a muscular long distance runner? The two things are directly at odds with each other.

Idk why but I never made the correlation. Army's methods of fitness training is really...outdated, and doesn't help. Plus I work out on my own and thought just running would do the trick.

But again, I'll incorporate more sprints and strength training to tone.

I guess my question is, where are you weak on the APFT? I'd focus on that trouble area until the test, and then switch back to muscle building. The running part in the APFT is only 2 miles; unless you just enjoy long distance running I'd bush those.

I agree that the test is crazy outdated and silly... just train to pass it and get back to building afterwards

My run is my only struggle. I can max situps, used to max pushups although I've stopped working on upper body strength which is also fairly weak but I can pass based on standards.

Thing is, I can run all day but I'm slow. Idk why that is.

You're Not Strong Enough Or Lack Relative Body Strength? You Have Bad Running Form? You Have "Muscle Viruses"/Tightness/Lack Mobility? You Run Slow Because You Train Slow?

Could Be Different Reasons.

It's the long distance running. I am no running expert but I imagine if you want to get faster at the 2 mile you should center your running around that distance.

I only know that I'm flat footed. My form has gotten better but I'm no professional so I wouldn't know if is still effecting me.

It's the long distance running. I am no running expert but I imagine if you want to get faster at the 2 mile you should center your running around that distance.

They say I should always do more than two. I think more sprints will help with speed.

Take shorter strides...

The higher you lift your knee, the more seconds you waste and it's bad for your knee...

I did a mile in 7.05 minutes...which is a big step for me...alot had to do with my form change..

I've tried the shorter strides method. I don't think I have it down because it exhausts me but I have heard that it's more beneficial for your run time

What Works For One Person To Improve Their Stride Length x Stride Frequency Isn't A Fix For Everyone Else. Plenty Of Athletes Have The Strength And Flexibility To Take Long Strides For Example. You Might Be Over Striding You Might Not Be, You Might Lack Strength & Mobilty You Might Not Idk.

Ima Leave You With Another Jewel Though Make Sure You Strike The Ground With The Balls Of Your Feet Not The Heel, And If You're Quad Dominant Work On Activating Your Glutes & Hamstrings.

You not pushing yourself and that's why your body not responding...

Get the Nike run app or any run app and try for at least 30 minutes..

Run for 30 minutes without stopping if you can..and build from there...

Pace yourself and try to push...when you start feeling exhausted, slow down...

Work on pace and breathing...

you gotta build up ya lungs for the long haul...
