I guarantee this will be the game where the Nuggets interior defense will be tested. Of course, the lack of rim protection by the Nuggets has been referenced ad nauseam. Still, the Heat shot 39 3s in Game 1. I’d be shocked if they shoot over 30 3s in Game 2. Nuggets didn’t have a single player with more than two fouls in the first game. Heat will be more in attack mode. Jumpers especially when they’re not falling makes it easy on the defense. I expect Jimmy especially to try to draw more fouls (especially against AG and Jokic) and get to the free throw line. He’ll be shooting more layups and shots within or around the paint. Defending without fouling will be much more difficult for Denver if Miami is going to the rim. One thing Denver has goin for them is their height. I don’t think they need to try to block every shot but moving their feet, staying in front of their man, putting their hands up, staying vertical, and contesting will be necessary. The help defense is going to be key too. Need to be prepared to run some doubles to get the ball out of Jimmy’s hands if he gets going. Aside from Jimmy though I do wonder if Miami has the personnel to really attack the rim all game long. Also if Denver starts hitting 3s I wonder if that will weaken Miami’s commitment to go to the basket. Scoring more on the other side may be Denver’s best defense.
