as a ny nikka, this thread is str8 overproof, nikkaz up here tryna sound like atl transplantz n shyt.dont get it twisted i fukkz with all my ninjaz below da mason dixon, but ny nikkaz tryna sound southern is blasphemy, let them have they movement, and start ya own.one thing about hip hop tho is that slang definitely crosses borders now 2 the point its multi-coastal, but dont be stealin nikkaz identities/cultures.......

It really has never been this bad though. When the west was running shyt NY nikkas still held their ground and started their own form of gangsta rap, they didn't start rappin over G-Funk beats and havin low riders in their videos. The south's influence>>>>

Da city where the skinny nikkas die
This been goin on the south has held it down for at least a decade. But I think out of the south Houston has been the most bitten region as far as trend setting from codeine to even the way rappers carry a verse on the track.

i agree. you got a canadian, Drake, who stright up robbed the entire houston culture. but i guess they're cool with it cuz he pays homage

its so bad when i heard that kirko bangz kid i was like "damn, he sounds like Drake." but then i thought "maybe Drake bit HIS swag first" :ohhh:

The Archives
Shorty been used up north for a min (see lost boyz renee) , the main difference though when I was young and went to ATL was that girls was calling dudes shorty too where as up north we used it to just refer to women......

Trap tho was straight jacked

Ratchet I think caught on cause of media Take out more so then rappers but I could be wrong.

It went from the East briefly to the West coast then the south been running with it for a minute now.

there's a clear difference between shorty and SHAWTY

the latter being from the south. never heard anyone down in ATL say shorty unless they was a transplant. nowadays even the transplants say shawty. :heh:

Don't try to slide a Kirko Win in that statement. Drake singing and shyt is drake shyt. Not Kirko shyt.

it has alot to do with the INTERNET...

It's made REGIONAL CHARACTERISTICS irrelevent...

now everybody can cop the same gear, same slang, same dances, same subject matter and intrests nationwide and global

where as before regions were isolated....NYC cats had thier own culture, West Coast had thier own culture ...even southern cities had thier own culture seperate from ATL....Mia, Houston , Charelston and New Orleans were all unique...

now every where u go SEE THE SAME N1GGA and the SAME HOE...

Shawty/Shorty has been used west, north and east.

I do agree do ny nigggas/ west coast nikkas using trap makes me lol

The reason why I didn't say midwest is because most of us still sound southern.
