Expecting Vinyl to be some huge hit is just a big miscalculation. I think HBO was just like it's Winter, Scorsese this shyt will hit based off the creative team. The subject matter is just so niche it will never happen. People who were around much less into the alt music scene in the 70s are 45 + years old. Shyt better be compelling as fukk for anyone younger to be interested.

Terence Winter is an incredible writer. They should've cancelled the series if they are forcing him out. It'll be interesting to see if Winter does his next show at HBO or takes his talents to Netflix, or possibly rejoins Chris Albrecht at Starz.

HBO's 'Vinyl' Unveils Soundtrack, Weekly Release Schedule
With a six-figure music budget per episode, each edition features up to 30 songs. Randall Poster and Meghan Currier are the music supervisors, with Scorsese, Jagger and Winter all weighing in with suggestions. Poster and Currier also paid slavish detail to make sure that all the instruments and studio equipment were of the period.

Winter probably wanted to keep clearing all that expensive music and HBO was probably like:whoa: After i heard Olivia saying she was going to be naked in one of the recent episodes I tried catching up and the first thing i notice was all the classic music they using including a whole episode about David Bowie and Elvis:merchant: and I think there was some Beach Boys in there also. No way that was cheap. Winter probably pitched some ideas about getting The Beatles, Pink Floyd and/or Zeppelin involved next season and HBO saw what it would cost :why: A big reason why they got rid of Boardwalk Empire was because it wasn't critically acclaimed and wasn't getting nominated for anything. It looks like Vinyl might be in the same boat with it costing so much but not bringing anything back in return.

On AMC, the creator of Mad Men was up for his extension first and it was a pretty big deal because they had some issues in negotiating.

But they ended up coming to an agreement of a big raise and one of the things he did was use a Beatles song in an episode, which cost 250k.

It's one of the few times a Beatles song has ever been used in a tv show.

Mad Men's budget almost caused Vince Gilligan to take Breaking Bad somewhere else because there really wasn't much money left for him.

HBO needs to get their shyt together. You turn down David Fincher using 100M for Utopia, which is a bunch of money, but give it to Winter for a show about music :dwillhuh:

So in the past couple of months they've fukked over David Fincher, Steve McQueen and now Terence Winter. Scorsese may follow after this.

:shaq2:

Scott Z Burns is pretty talented tho.

Can't say they fukked over Fincher....dude wanted $100 mill. There's no way in hell "Utopia" should cost any where near $100 mill.

HBO are some fukking morons for giving that to Winter for "Vinyl" when it had virtually no chance of mainstream acceptance. "Utopia" could easily be their next prestige drama if they play their cards right.

HBO still has the rights for Utopia and are actively looking for a new director to shepherd it. They should try and bring back Fincher, though.

ALL the music they put isn't needed. God, I hope they can figure this out.
