Had all the best dialogue and his acting was A1, had no idea he was British. Same with Adebisi, I legit thought he was from Africa.

Oh and Karim Said's reason for choosing to remain in prison was also bullshyt. Dude would have been way more of an asset to his people on the outside, but decided to stand on some bullshyt principle that achieved nothing for him in the end. Also that old weirdo jewish guy killed him for a reason that made literally zero sense.

Just finished my official watch of Oz and boy oh boy:wow:

I was very familiar with Oz but never seen it in full like intended and boy is this show a fukkin rollercoaster. You can tell the blueprint for premium drama series was brought to the forefront with Oz.

Can we start with that theme song. I think as a kid and hearing this it has been a natural deterrent for me and living a life of crime. shyt sounds so visceral but rhythmic at the same time. And the random musical cues that happen throughout the episodes can be corny but a very good kind of corny.

Even though its an ensemble piece the fact that the show's true main character Beecher does get drowned out sometimes cuz its just so much going on. This was one of the few shows where it really didnt feel like a chore getting thru the seasons even though there is a noticeable drop in quality in the later seasons.

So many fukking characters:wow: While watching sometimes I felt like I was watching a stage play especially around the mid to late 90s NYC underground style artsy fartsy plays. Not that it takes anything away from the show but it adds a certain charm to the show we really dont see in TV these days. And I like that they used surreal humor and surrealist elements.

This is really the last true show of the 90s and I feel doesnt really get the proper respect when it comes to Pivotal HBO series let alone TV dramas.

Character reviews coming soon

I love the overall summary of the show, I can’t wait to hear ur thoughts on various characters. Oz truly isn’t appreciated enough in the HBO universe, but here it gets its due. One of the best things about Oz to me is how most of the cast went on to other crime procedure shows. All of them were inmates (well except BD Wong) b even the some of the inmates who had guest appearances wound up on other cop shows (LL cool J)

Def enjoy when this thread gets bumped. I might have to go back and rewatch it myself

Yeah thats one of the main things i kept saying to myself how most of the guys were on them type of shows that really came out around the same time/after Oz.

The fact that Law and Order SVU premiered at the same time Oz was the air. Vern pretty much was BD Wong's role in the earlier seasons if I remember correctly.

You can really see bits of Keller oozing out when watching Stabler on SVU

Even though Sopranos or The Wire are considered the GOAT, this one is probably my favorite HBO show

A lot of actors who appeared on Oz/The Wire/L&O. Especially since there’s so many L&O episodes to choose from on the different variations.

It took me a little while to get used to Chris Meloni as Stabler after watching him on Oz. Seeing an actor expose himself to a nun, passionate make out with guys, snap a guys neck when he’s blowing him...it kind of stays in your head when you see him in something else.
