Not really. Cable companies pay HBO a lot of money not to do this. They know that HBO is the reason a lot of subscribers havent cut the cord yet. They would have to charge a lot more than 10 bucks a month to make it worth it.
It goes both ways
cable takes a hit on HBO to get people to stay with cable. But HBO gets monthly revenue stream, absolutely no distribution costs. It gives them the freedom to hand pick shows without worrying about them failing. Netflix is walking a fine line but a expensive show has the chance to cripple them.
